Refresh Yourself!
This past week has been particularly challenging for me. Have you ever had one of those weeks? It seems like you are treading water, staying afloat, but not making progress. I wholeheartedly believe in the importance of renewing oneself, yet it was a lot of effort finding the time!
What do you do to renew? For me, it depends on how much time I can squeeze out. I love to spa at nice places where you can just relax and hang out. Of course, that doesn’t happen everyday. I also use meditation, a night out, and silence (but not at the same time, lol).
The importance of renewing/refreshing one’s spirit has been known from very early in man’s history. A quote from Marcus Aurelius (121-180 AD) says “Nowhere can a man withdraw to a more untroubled quietude than in his own soul. Grant yourself this withdrawal continually, and refresh yourself.” It’s pretty obvious what his favorite method of renewal was.
Finding time to refresh and renew our spirit allows us to continue doing and handling all of the jobs, responsibilities, and relationships that we have in our lives. If practiced regularly, renewing the spirit helps us to feel more balanced and less overwhelmed. Tuning in to our renewed spirit also gives us access to our inner source of wisdom and creativity. This is where solutions to problems and inspiration come from. When your spirit is drained, it is so easy to miss this wisdom.
Ultimately, we create our outer world from our inner world. If that inner world is stressed and strained, your outer world is going to reflect that. Take the time to do something to renew your spirit. In my experience, when you have the least time to do it is when you need it most!
There are many ways to refresh and renew. Do you practice renewal regularly? How do you renew? Post a comment and tell me.
All the best!

This came at the best time ever. I woke up thinking about the things I had to do that night?! Not about the day, but the night. Then it hit me how I need a vacation. I have started to do some easy yoga positions to stretch my spine. My body feels 10x better and it wakes me up to the core! Thanks for your post.

I'm into bubble baths and such. I had not been in one since my knee surgery so I missed them. Unplanned things like designing a new perfume or listening to someone talk about their current project or seeing my special friends always help me renew.

All of these things are so important. Someone wrote saying that they read uplifting books. The key is doing whatever helps us relax, and distance ourselve from the stresses of life for a while. Please keep the ideas coming, I'm sure we will all gather some tips!

I am a true run until you drop person. So refreshing my spirit is a must. I sometimes feel like refresh--no rebuild. I do like silence. Just being quiet enough to hear myself and my inner self. Just quiet enough to remember what things are truly important to me. If I can get that silence in one of those bubble baths mentioned above...I'm on! Refreshed!

Your statement is so true. We get caught up in the rat race and forget our need to refresh...regroup...renew. So many things get in the way, but then as a parent I sometimes feel guilt for devoting even a little time to myself, like I'm being selfish. But if I dont refresh who would I be helping after I meltdown?? Getting put and excersing helps me to refresh...but i haven't taken the time lately. Definitely past time to refresh!

Many of us struggle with the idea that we are being selfish in taking time for ourselves. You hit the nail right on the head when you say who can we help if we meltdown. That is really the way we have to look at it. We have to fill/refill ourselves up to fullness so that we can then have what we need to give to our families and others who depend on us.

In today’s world people are very busy with their life. They don’t get time for anything. With this busy life schedule they are not getting time to refresh or to spend some time with their family. We are humans and our mind and body requires proper rest and refreshments in proper time. There are many ways by which we can refresh our mind. The common method is practicing medication. Meditation not only gives refreshment to our mind but also it is good to increase our wisdom and creativity.

Absolutely! Meditation is a great way to refresh. Some other favorites are spending time in nature or any place of beauty and listening to music. Spending quality time with family can also provide a way to refresh. The important thing is to find what works for you and consistenly make the time to include it.
